LOCAL DIGITAL CAPABILITY

Field networking and incident IT

Temporary digital infrastructure designed to keep essential information moving safely when a normal office or network is unavailable.

Practical systems for temporary operations

A communications response often needs more than a voice channel. Teams may need managed laptops, local Wi-Fi, printers, shared documents, mapping, activity logs or a controlled route to available internet services.

UKRCS is developing portable wired and wireless networking, device preparation, local services and offline-first working methods. The aim is a small, understandable system matched to the task—not unnecessary technical complexity.

Design principles

  • Documented setup, addressing and recovery procedures
  • Separation of operational and guest access where appropriate
  • Least-privilege access and responsible information handling
  • Offline fallback for essential documents and logs
  • Power, spares and graceful shutdown planning
Any service would be agreed with the supported organisation, including responsibilities for information security, data protection and acceptable use.
